On September 20, 2016, Mirai botnets launched large DDoS attacks across the internet causing service disruptions on some of the most popular sites like Twitter, Spotify and the New York Times.
In total, 49,657 unique IPs hosted Mirai-infected devices.
A second wave of attacks, this time on DNS provider Dyn, hit just over a month later. Again, several major sites were knocked offline.
